It’s one of the best nights of the year in Annapolis! Dozens of boats in all shapes and sizes covered in thousands of colored lights parade through the Annapolis Harbor for two magical hours.
The beloved celebration started back in 1981 by spirited EYC members Jim and Shirley Langer who lived on their boat in Spa Creek. The story goes that one cold December night they strung Christmas lights on the rigging of their boat and cruised around the harbor singing carols.
The next year, friends joined in the fun and by 1988 the parade was given the designation of “Official Maryland Winter Celebration”. These days it’s recognized by USA Today as one of the Top 10 holiday parades in America. The rest of us just call it our favorite way of making the holidays merry and bright.
The joy that parade night brings continues thanks to sponsor generosity. Proceeds are shared with EYC Foundation that works year round to support local diverse and under represented youth through interactive and on-the-water learning, a career expo, and marine and maritime trade school and college scholarships.
EYC is proud to produce this wonderful event for the thousands of jolly enthusiasts that descend upon the shores of Annapolis every second Saturday in December. We invite you to be a part of this special night as a happy spectator, Skipper and/or Sponsor.
Sail, power or dinghy, all are welcome! As anyone who’s been on a boat on this magical night will tell you, the Lights Parade is a memory you will forever treasure. Get tips, inspiration and fill out your application.
You help make the parade happen, get new positive exposure for your company with thousands of people AND support hundreds of local kids.
Attracting talented local artists of all ages, the initiative now includes an Artists’ Reception, awards and the proceeds of poster and note card sales benefit local charities. This year’s contest kicks off this summer.
